Follow me on my personal journey to healthy and normal blood sugar levels. My name is Charlie and I am a type 1 diabetic, I control my diabetes with an insulin pump and a Libre. I was given the usual dietary advice upon diagnosis, which included alot of carbs and I don't need to say, my blood sugars spiked like crazy. That is when I found DR Bernstein and read his book, it made much more sense than the advice I had been given. I now follow the good Doctors advice to control my sugar levels. I then came across a Facebook group called Typeonegrit, where I also learnt the best way to control diabetes was through a LCHF diet, it was this group of people that really helped me on my way to normal levels, they gave me the advice and inspiration that I needed and they keep me working hard day in and day out.

I can have my cake and stay between the lines too!

Since starting GRIT, my LCHF way of eating - my blood sugars have been improving daily. Prior to this new lifestyle my blood sugar would often hit the high 20's (mmol) on a daily occasion. I was used to high numbers and so to avoid a constant hypo feeling I have had to bring them down slowly. I am now around 7(mmol) most of the time, and hopefully next week will be able to bring it down to the 5mmols. I have had the odd day where I have had a problematic insulin pump set, but apart from that I have had nice steady lines. I wanted to show my graph to you today as I have been baking! When I bake I have to try everything I make ..... and I havnt spiked! I will post some photos of the cakes I made when I make them again. (They were so nice, they are all gone.) I know my graph shows I reached maybe 8mmol during the night, but believe me this is brilliant for me - and after all I am still a work in progress.
